I believe you folks in the State Department at least have us heading in the right general direction -- 180 degrees around from what we had during the previous administration. I'm afraid, however, that we're going to find the progress we make more like hacking our way though a tropical forest than walking down a paved sidewalk. We as a nation certainly have our work cut out for us. Thank you, Mr. Secretary, for your excellent leadership as we move forward.

Hacking our way through a tropical forest —or swamp, as it were— is a matter of course, in my opinion. The left has built up their evil cabal for DECADES; a paved sidewalk simply doesn’t exist in this environment.

Thanks to the Trump administration, I believe we’re on the cusp of multiple, nation-changing breakthroughs. It’s been painful at times, but there’s a purpose to the pain. Patience is a virtue, but it can be extremely difficult to hold on to…to maintain!

Well said, Mr. Secretary! I couldn't be happier with the direction you have taken your department. Your strong leadership skills are the shot in the arm this department has needed for decades. Please do not tolerate ANY insubordination in your ranks. If you have trouble removing someone, remember you can REASSIGN them to a windowless basement room to do book reports until they retire or can be removed. As a retired civil servant with years in HR, I can attest to managers who nod their heads and say, "Yes, sir!" and then slow walk and obstruct every chance they get. You would do well to set up an anonymous suggestion box managed by trusted individuals to alert you to problem areas. I wish you the best of luck and God's blessings on you and yours.

No mention of Canada? The northern border is wide open and it’s where the drugs and people are coming from and China has its hooks in Carney and parliament up there. Time to get tough on them or just take them over.

I’m not sending you Sam’s work for free. The investigation he has done has been intensive and deeper than any journalist in Canada. You want to keep your head on the sand that’s your problem. Don’t worry in a few more years the US will own you anyway.

What is he doing about reshoring the people who were illegally deported so they can get their day in front of a judge?

Expand full comment
Sonia Nordenson's avatar

It is NOT illegal to deport migrants who entered illegally.

Ron Warrick's avatar

Of course not but you can’t do it extrajudicially. Existential decisions need a second opinion at least. Do unto others as you would have done to yourself. You would want the same for yourself.

The Constitution is very clear on this matter. All people on American soil get due process. All. And there is a nuance here about illegality- yes, they come through illegally, but it is considered a civil offense. And according to our laws if they are asylum seekers they must enter first, then request asylum…

If I had entered the country illegally, I wouldn't expect it. I see such deportations as already judicial. If there were squatters in a house you owned, would you think it fair to let them maintain their occupation until they'd had their day in court (and inevitable expulsion)?

Expand full comment
Ron Warrick's avatar

Yes, if, like the squatter, you are caught red-handed at the border, you don’t get a hearing. Otherwise you do, for the state to prove their case. I don’t understand why this is a difficult concept, especially when a conservative Supreme Court has ruled on it at least twice. Did you never have civics in school?

I did, Ron, back in the early '60s. With all good wishes, I shall leave it to you to consider why this is a difficult concept.

I’m guessing it’s a difficult concept because emotionally you don’t want to believe it.

None of you dummies recognize from history “America First” became a rally cry for isolationists after WWI who opposed American involvement in the League of Nations and international treaties. And that “Golden Age” in US history, also known as the “Gilded Age”, was a period of rapid industrial growth and economic expansion from the 1870s to the late 1890s. Some saw this era as one of great prosperity, but it was more characterized by significant wealth inequality and the rise of monopolies controlled by powerful industrialists, often called "robber barons".. J.P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, and Andrew Carnegie, amassed enormous fortunes through various business practices, including price-fixing and exploiting workers.
